The chain is the payment mode (spv-understanding.md, "Payment modes"): receive for a wallet that holds its keys; delegated for a service's xpub wallet answering for an offline payee, which hands the payment over later with the index (TransactionExportedEvent.delegatedIndices carries it too). An address the caller supplied in an output is not among them.
