Overview
Infospect meaning Information Inspector is a Flutter plugin for that empowers the developers to debug the network calls and logs in the app. It is a powerful tools that offer network call interception and logging features, among others. By allowing developers to monitor and intercept network calls, they can efficiently debug network-related issues and optimize app performance. The logging and debugging capabilities aid in understanding app behavior and detecting errors, leading to faster bug resolution.

Migrating from 0.1.5
Upgrading from 0.1.5 to 0.2.0? See MIGRATION.md for consumer breaking changes (Flutter / SDK floors, multiview_desktop desktop runner setup, and obsolete multi-window IPC APIs).
Desktop compatibility (Multiview hosts)
If your desktop runners use Multiview — especially with a feature-flagged Infospect
build or a host dependency like window_manager — read
DESKTOP_COMPATIBILITY.md before shipping. It covers
the registrar.view hang, always-runMultiApp requirement, quit lifecycle, and
hiddenWindowAtLaunch pitfalls.
Getting started
- Add the dependency to your pubspec.yaml file. (Replace latest-version with the latest version of the plugin)
dependencies:
infospect: latest-version
or using the below command
flutter pub add infospect
Usage
- Initialize the plugin in main.dart
Infospect.ensureInitialized();
Infospect ensureInitialized({
int maxCallsCount = 1000,
GlobalKey<NavigatorState>? navigatorKey,
bool logAppLaunch = false,
void Function(String path)? onShareAllNetworkCalls,
void Function(String path)? onShareAllLogs,
}
In ensureInitialized we can configure the maxCallCount int for both network calls and logs,
defaults to 1000.
A navigatorKey GlobalKey<NavigatorState> that will be used for navigation and dialog, if not
provided a new key will be created.
A bool value to logAppLaunch, if true will log the app launch with details like below, defaults to
true,
App name: Example
Package: com.example.example
Version: 0.1.0
Build number: 0.1.0
Started at: 2023-08-20T13:39:56.531974
A call back to handle the share functionality for all the network calls onShareAllNetworkCalls, This will provide the path of the compressed file name infospect_network_calls_log.tar.gz, which can be shared accordingly. If not provided, the default platform share option will be invoked.

Desktop / Multiview entry (required when Multiview natives are wired)
Prefer
Infospect.instance.runwhen the inspector is initialized, orInfospect.bootstrapMultiViewAppwhen logging may be disabled:
// Inspector enabled:
Infospect.ensureInitialized(logAppLaunch: true);
Infospect.instance.run(args, myApp: const MainApp());
// Multiview natives installed but Infospect logging off:
Infospect.bootstrapMultiViewApp(const MainApp());
// or: InfospectDesktopBootstrap.runAppOrMultiApp(const MainApp());
On desktop this starts multiview_desktop
(runMultiApp) so Infospect can open secondary OS windows on the same Flutter
engine. On mobile / web this behaves like a normal runApp.
Never use plain runApp on desktop after Multiview native runners are
installed — macOS terminate stays cancelled until Multiview Dart replies, and
the process can hang as an unkillable UE task.
Desktop hosts also need the multiview_desktop platform setup in their macOS / Windows / Linux runners (see the package README and the Infospect example app).
Infospect.instance.run / bootstrapMultiViewApp set windowButtonVisibility: true
so the host window keeps native minimize / maximize / close controls.
Multiview host lifecycle (macOS)
Forward these AppDelegate methods to MultiviewDesktopPlugin (see Multiview README
and example/macos/Runner/AppDelegate.swift):
applicationShouldTerminateAfterLastWindowClosedapplicationShouldTerminateapplicationShouldHandleReopenapplicationDockMenu
Without Dart runMultiApp, applicationShouldTerminate returns .terminateCancel
forever — quit never completes.
window_manager hazard (macOS + Multiview)
window_manager 0.3.x resolving the primary window via registrar.view is
unsafe with Multiview / enableMultiView on macOS (main-thread hang at
(registrar.view?.window)!). Do not rely on that for the primary window.
Prefer Multiview WindowOptions / MultiViewDesktop APIs, or patch window
resolution (e.g. NSApp.windows / null-safe GetView) if you must keep
window_manager.
Obsolete multi_window CLI args / second-isolate Infospect entry is not
the Multiview model — secondary windows share one isolate.
- Adding network call interceptor a. dio:
_dio = Dio(BaseOptions());
_dio.interceptors.add(Infospect.instance.dioInterceptor);
b. http:
http.Client client = http.Client();
client = Infospect.instance.httpClientInterceptor(client: client);
- Adding logs
Infospect.instance.addLog(
InfospectLog(
message: logMessage,
level: level,
error: error,
stackTrace: stackTrace,
),
);
- Adding invoker to get and overlay button to open the infospect window
state:
alwaysOpened,collapsible,autoCollapse
Drag the bubble to dock it on any screen edge. Long-press to hide it; tap the thin edge nub to show it again. Optional initialEdge / initialAlign set the starting dock.
InfospectInvoker(
state: InvokerState.collapsible,
initialEdge: InvokerEdge.right,
initialAlign: 0.85,
child: child,
);
This can be wrapped around the child widget returned from the builder method of MaterialApp. By this, the invoker will be available on all the screens of the app.
If a navigator key is provided in the ensureInitialized method, then the navigator key can be used here, if not provided a new navigator key will be created by Infospect and can be accessed using Infospect.instance.getNavigatorKey and can be used as below
MaterialApp(
navigatorKey: Infospect.instance.getNavigatorKey,
theme: ThemeData(useMaterial3: true),
darkTheme: ThemeData.dark(useMaterial3: true),
themeMode: ThemeMode.dark,
builder: (context, child) {
return InfospectInvoker(
state: InvokerState.collapsible,
child: child ?? const SizedBox.shrink(),
);
},
home: const MainApp(),
)
In desktop the infospect window will be opened in a new window, and it can be invoked by clicking on the invoker or using the mentioned shortcut keys
macOS:
⌘ + ⌥ + i(Command + Option + i) Windows:Ctrl + Alt + iLinux:Ctrl + Alt + i
But in mobile the infospect window will be opened in a new route.
Desktop Infospect window — menu bar & shortcuts
Flutter’s native PlatformMenuBar only targets the main window, so it does
not appear on Multiview secondary windows. Infospect therefore uses an
in-window menu bar (View / Network / Logs / Window) with trailing
shortcut labels on every platform.
Every Infospect-opened window (inspector, popped tabs, breakpoints, intercept editors, body windows) closes with:
macOS:
⌘W· Windows / Linux:Ctrl+W
Other inspector shortcuts (focus-gated so they only apply to the focused Infospect window):
| Action | macOS | Windows / Linux |
|---|---|---|
| Network tab | ⌘1 | Ctrl+1 |
| Logs tab | ⌘2 | Ctrl+2 |
| Breakpoints… | ⌘B | Ctrl+B |
| Clear network calls | ⌘⇧K | Ctrl+Shift+K |
| Share network calls | ⌘⇧S | Ctrl+Shift+S |
| Open Network in new window | ⌘⇧N | Ctrl+Shift+N |
| Clear logs | ⌘⇧L | Ctrl+Shift+L |
| Share logs | ⌘⇧E | Ctrl+Shift+E |
| Open Logs in new window | ⌘⇧G | Ctrl+Shift+G |
| Close window | ⌘W | Ctrl+W |
Prefer InfospectInvoker when the host already owns its menus (shortcut only).
To add Infospect to a host macOS PlatformMenuBar, use
InfospectDesktopInvoker.mergePlatformMenus. Helpers also exist for
mergeBarButtons and mergeTaskbarMenus.

Network breakpoints (Proxyman-style, without a proxy)
Pause matching requests and/or responses so you can edit headers, query params, and body before the call continues — the same workflow proxy tools provide, powered by Infospect's Dio /
httpinterceptors.Add a breakpoint from code
// Pause every method for this path: Infospect.instance.addEndpointBreakpoint(endpoint: '/api/users'); // Pause only POST: Infospect.instance.addEndpointBreakpoint( endpoint: '/api/users', method: 'POST', ); // Path prefix match: Infospect.instance.addEndpointBreakpoint(endpoint: '/api/users*'); // Extra AND conditions (query, headers, JSON body path, status, …): Infospect.instance.addEndpointBreakpoint( endpoint: '/api/checkout', method: 'POST', conditions: [ InfospectBreakpointCondition( id: 'c1', target: InfospectBreakpointMatchTarget.queryParam, op: InfospectBreakpointMatchOp.equals, key: 'env', value: 'staging', ), InfospectBreakpointCondition( id: 'c2', target: InfospectBreakpointMatchTarget.requestBodyJson, op: InfospectBreakpointMatchOp.equals, key: 'cart.id', value: '42', ), ], ); // Break only when the response is a 5xx (evaluated at response phase): Infospect.instance.addEndpointBreakpoint( endpoint: '/api/*', breakOnRequest: false, breakOnResponse: true, conditions: [ InfospectBreakpointCondition( id: 'c3', target: InfospectBreakpointMatchTarget.responseStatus, op: InfospectBreakpointMatchOp.inRange, value: '500-599', ), ], );Conditions are AND-combined on top of endpoint / method. Targets include query params, request headers, request/response body text or JSON path (
user.id), and response status (exact or200-299range). Response-only filters do not pause the outbound request.Add / manage breakpoints in the UI
- Network tab → overflow menu → Breakpoints
- Desktop: right-click a network call → Add breakpoint
- Mobile: long-press a network call → adds a breakpoint for that method + path
- In the rule editor, use Conditions → Add for query / header / body / status filters (same options as the API)
When a rule matches:
- Mobile: a fullscreen dialog opens to edit the request; after the server responds, another dialog opens for the response.
- Desktop: the same editors open in a native window (AppBar, summary bar, section tabs). Reopening Breakpoints focuses the existing management window. Concurrent intercept windows keep their edit state.
Request / response body editors are dual-mode JSON editors:
- Tree — foldable editable tree (edit keys/values, change types, add/remove fields) when the payload is valid JSON
- Text — syntax-highlighted editor with line numbers, Tab indent, smart newlines, wavy underline + gutter marker on parse errors, bracket-pair highlight at the caret, plus Format / Minify / Validate
Invalid JSON stays editable as raw text (Tree is disabled until syntax is fixed).
Use Continue to send the (possibly edited) request / response ahead, or Abort to cancel the call.
Edited calls keep both the original and edited URL / params / headers / body (and response status) on the logged call, shown as an Original vs Edited section in request / response details (mobile and desktop).
