How long this event's message took to reach us, as the transport measured it — see MessageTiming.
Null for events the local node generated itself (phase changes, node timeouts) and for transports that cannot supply timing. It is deliberately available on every coordination event: characterising a session means measuring the low-rate control traffic too, not only the data streams.
