toString method

  1. @override
String toString()
override

A string representation of this object.

Some classes have a default textual representation, often paired with a static parse function (like int.parse). These classes will provide the textual representation as their string representation.

Other classes have no meaningful textual representation that a program will care about. Such classes will typically override toString to provide useful information when inspecting the object, mainly for debugging or logging.

Implementation

@override
String toString() {
  var buffer = StringBuffer();
  render(buffer);
  if (buffer.length > 72) {
    // wrap parameter:
    final definition = buffer.toString();
    final wrappedBuffer = StringBuffer();
    var startIndex = 72;
    wrappedBuffer
      ..write(definition.substring(0, startIndex))
      ..write('\r\n');
    while (startIndex < definition.length - 73) {
      wrappedBuffer
        ..write(' ')
        ..write(definition.substring(startIndex, startIndex + 71))
        ..write('\r\n');
      startIndex += 71;
    }
    if (startIndex < definition.length) {
      wrappedBuffer
        ..write(' ')
        ..write(definition.substring(startIndex))
        ..write('\r\n');
    }
    buffer = wrappedBuffer;
  } else {
    buffer.write('\r\n');
  }
  return buffer.toString();
}
