Image Gallery Saver plugin for Flutter #

A Flutter plugin for iOS and Android for saving images to the image library.

Note: This plugin is still under development, and some APIs might not be available yet. Feedback welcome and Pull Requests are most welcome!

Installation #

First, add image_gallery_saver as a dependency in your pubspec.yaml file.

iOS #

Add the following keys to your Info.plist file, located in <project root>/ios/Runner/Info.plist:

  • NSPhotoLibraryUsageDescription - describe why your app needs permission for the photo library. This is called Privacy - Photo Library Usage Description in the visual editor.

No configuration required - the plugin should work out of the box.

Example #

import 'dart:typed_data';

import 'package:flutter/material.dart';
import 'dart:async';

import 'package:flutter/services.dart';
import 'package:photos_saver/photos_saver.dart';

void main() => runApp(MyApp());

class MyApp extends StatefulWidget {
  @override
  _MyAppState createState() => _MyAppState();
}

class _MyAppState extends State<MyApp> {
  Uint8List _imageData;
  var _scaffoldKey = new GlobalKey<ScaffoldState>();

  @override
  void initState() {
    super.initState();
    loadImage();
  }

  Future<void> loadImage() async {
    var imageData =
    await rootBundle.load("assets/images/landscape.jpg").then((byteData) {
      return byteData.buffer.asUint8List();
    });

    if (!mounted) return;

    setState(() {
      _imageData = imageData;
    });
  }

  @override
  Widget build(BuildContext context) {
    return MaterialApp(
      home: Scaffold(
        key: _scaffoldKey,
        appBar: AppBar(
          title: const Text('Plugin example app'),
        ),
        body: Center(
          child: Column(
            children: <Widget>[
              _imageData != null
                  ? Image.memory(_imageData,
                  fit: BoxFit.cover, width: double.infinity)
                  : Text("Loading"),
              SizedBox(height: 16),
              RaisedButton(
                onPressed: () async {
                  String filePath =
                  await PhotosSaver.saveFile(fileData: _imageData);
                  _scaffoldKey.currentState.showSnackBar(SnackBar(
                      duration: Duration(seconds: 5),
                      content: Text("Created image file at $filePath")));
                },
                child: Text("Add this image to gallery"),
              )
            ],
          ),
        ),
      ),
    );
  }
}

Health issues and suggestions

Document public APIs. (-1 points)

4 out of 4 API elements have no dartdoc comment.Providing good documentation for libraries, classes, functions, and other API elements improves code readability and helps developers find and use your API.

Format lib/photos_saver.dart.

Run flutter format to format lib/photos_saver.dart.

Maintenance issues and suggestions

Support latest dependencies. (-5 points)

The version constraint in pubspec.yaml does not support the latest published versions for 1 dependency.

Package is pre-v0.1 release. (-10 points)

While nothing is inherently wrong with versions of 0.0.*, it might mean that the author is still experimenting with the general direction of the API.

The package description is too short. (-6 points)

Add more detail to the description field of pubspec.yaml. Use 60 to 180 characters to describe the package, what it does, and its target use case.
